Featured Soloist
James McCourt
James McCourt is a junior at Gig Harbor High and plays in the Wind Symphony, Jazz and Brass Bands. James plays several instruments, but the clarinet has been his favorite since 6th grade. He has been fortunate to learn from many esteemed conductors in several Honor Bands over the last 5 years; including WIBC, WMEA All State, and PLU NW High School Honor Band. He has also enjoyed competing in the COMBMEA Solo and Ensemble contest, and will return to WMEA/WIAA State Solo and Ensemble contest for the 3rd year to compete in the Clarinet solo, Small Woodwind ensemble and Large Percussion group categories. James thanks his private teacher Dave Carson and his beloved band director, Eric Swanson for their excellent teaching and support.
Featured Soloist
Alec Rodriguez
Alec has spent ten years now immersed in studying piano and continues to love it. At 15, his recent accomplishments include placing third at last fall's Mercer Island Russian Music Competition, performing a solo benefit recital for the North Kitsap High School choir program, and being selected to play at the upcoming WSMTA State Conference Recital. His affinity for experimenting with the musical aspects of pieces, whether shaping a single phrase or developing a unifying story, motivates him to continually stretch his skills and develop as a young pianist. He is, most importantly, grateful for the invaluable guidance and support he has received from his teacher, Dr. Irene Bowling.
